AN ANTIQUE CHINESE HANDSCROLL CELEBRATING THE SPRING

Ink and colors on silk. Painting depicting flowers in full bloom, grasshoppers, dragonflies and other insects, all of which are typical forebearers of the spring in Chinese tradition. Collectors’ marks at the beginning of the depiction and probably artist and collectors’ marks at the end. First block- bold letters in seal script. After the painting- a block of poems or prose. Gold colored brocade on the outside of the scroll, rollers decorated in Russet jade. Age stains. Scroll- approx. 4 m long. Painting- approx. 162 cm.
